Introduction to role
Are you a professional Building Services Engineer with a passion for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) infrastructure and strategic planning? We are seeking an Accountable Engineer HVAC to provide technical leadership for high-risk, high-impact projects within Cambridge Operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the HVAC infrastructure, offering functional leadership and contributing to engineering and technology strategies. You will also coach and mentor other employees in your discipline and manage supply partners to deliver key service aspects.
Accountabilities
Subject Matter Expertise
- Provide subject matter expertise to BAU operations and capital projects, setting long-term strategic goals and objectives, while ensuring technical direction to projects.
- Identify breakthrough and emerging technologies, or devise improvements in existing technologies, that can be successfully applied to give business benefit.
- Recognise where there are gaps between business needs and known and emerging technologies, and develop strategies to close technology gaps.
- Assess the likely success and benefits of technologies and gain support and commitment to these opportunities from senior management.
- Develop creative and efficient methods of pursuing and progressing development programmes to successful implementation.
- Ensure that appropriate processes and standards are developed and deployed (including training, education, and awareness).
Project Technical Management
- Act as the Project Technical Manager on projects.
- Work collaboratively with (and where necessary manage) technical and business resources from internal and external sources, to ensure that appropriate technical solutions are specified and delivered.
- Evaluate the technical competence of the external design and engineering staff employed on contracts, projects, and technical developments to ensure they have the necessary skills to meet the needs of the project/technical development.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Relevant technical degree or equivalent
- A proven track record of working in pharmaceutical-related engineering technologies with the technical expertise and ability to make connections between technology and delivering business value
- Strong communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills with AZ customers, peers, and third-party suppliers
- Ability to develop and champion innovation opportunities and lead any changes
- Experience of managing/delivering the engineering technology aspects of projects/technology developments
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Post-graduate Engineering qualification
- Ability to work in diverse multinational teams and proven ability to influence others to achieve positive outcomes
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of global engineering technology innovations in the external market (political/economic and new trends)
- Knowledge of industries outside pharmaceuticals
- Knowledge of Lean design processes and their application
