The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics (MMLL) seeks to appoint a full-time Assistant (Grade 9) in Italian and Comparative Romance Linguistics from 1 September 2025.
Candidates will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research in Italian and Comparative Romance Linguistics, commensurate with their career stage, and a strong trajectory. We welcome candidates whose research and/or teaching demonstrates the potential for collaborative or cross-disciplinary work.
This post will be shared by the Italian and Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (TAL) Sections. The appointee's teaching duties (or 'stint') will be divided across the two areas.
The appointee will contribute to the teaching and examining of Italian and Comparative Romance Linguistics. In addition the appointee will potentially contribute to the teaching and examining of any of syntax, morphology, or typology within TAL.
The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in teaching and examining at postgraduate (MPhil and PhD) level in their field of expertise. The role includes an active contribution to the administration of the respective Sections, and the broader Faculty's, activities.
Candidates will have relevant teaching experience, have successfully completed a PhD in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate active, collegial engagement in research, teaching and outreach in Italian and/or Linguistics. A fluent or near-fluent command of both Italian and English is essential.
The appointee will undertake core teaching and supervision, as well as teaching and supervision underpinned by research in their own field.
