Professor Gonçalo Bernardes is looking for a laboratory manager. This role is an integral member of Professor Bernardes group based in the Department of Chemistry assisting with the day-by-day smooth running of the Bernardes laboratories. The role holder will provide management of the Bernardes research laboratories to facilitate the smooth and effective support for research and teaching. They will provide specialist technical support to research staff and students to support the delivery of research projects on time and to budget. They will ensure a productive and safe research environments for the 25+ member research team that is supported by multiple grants and donations (£2M+). The Research Laboratory Manager will assist in the supervision of junior members of the team and PTIII students.

The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for overseeing and maintenance of a range of complex, state-of-the-art equipment, and they will train group members in the equipment's use. They will be expected to help students and post-docs implement new experiments and assist the group in practical aspects. They will introduce new members to the team, update the Lab Management & Safety Plan and ensure that the laboratory maintains a clean and safe environment. The Research Laboratory Manager also helps the research group to coordinate interactions with support staff within the Department.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in Chemistry and have breadth of experience in research coordination / group administration. Having well-developed communicational skills and the ability to relate well to a wide range of people is essential. As is being able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of laboratory technician work and the ability to make independent decisions and take effective action.
