Communications Assistant - Engineering Biology IRC (Part Time, Fixed Term)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and personable candidate for the role of Communications Assistant for the Engineering Biology Interdisciplinary Research Centre (EngBio IRC). The role holder will assist with content creation and curation for the IRC's communication channels including our social media, website and newsletter. They will also have the opportunity to help develop and deliver a new communications strategy for the IRC. They will be expected to produce high-quality and engaging digital and social media content that enhances the IRC's image and the University of Cambridge's reputation as a world-leading institution for engineering biology.

The EngBio IRC (https://www.engbio.cam.ac.uk) aims to catalyse interdisciplinary exchange between engineering, physics, biology and social sciences to advance synthetic and engineering biology at the University of Cambridge. Based in the Department of Biochemistry, the role holder will work closely with the IRC Coordinator Dr. Stephanie Norwood, the events and communications assistant Vicky Reid and the IRC co-chairs Prof. Laura Machesky and Dr. Jenny Molloy. They will assist the coordinator to develop, plan and deliver the IRC's vision and strategy by developing content and helping to manage the organisation's external and internal communication channels.

Responsibilities will include content creation and curation for our web channels, development of a new communications strategy, assisting with the maintenance of our website and publishing of our newsletter, and providing advice and assistance to other team members.

The successful candidate will have experience with content development for websites and social media and be comfortable communicating complex information to a diverse range of audiences. Background knowledge of biology will be helpful but is not essential.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2026 in the first instance.
