We are seeking an experienced Project Finance Administrator to join an established finance team.
Physics is one of the largest departments in the University, with over 1000 people on site across nine buildings on the West Cambridge campus. We have a very wide range of scientific facilities and complex equipment including wet and dry laboratories, biological facilities, clean rooms, cryogenics, mechanical and electronics workshops, microscopy, and large-scale astronomical structures. Many of the facilities operate as Small Research Facilities (SRFs).
We are undergoing an exciting period of change as we prepare for the move to our new Ray Dolby Centre. The new facility is designed to match the most exacting standards of current research, serving the education needs of future generations of undergraduate and graduate students much more effectively than is possible on our existing site.
The role holder will be responsible for supporting the RDC project team, to enable the Finance Manager and Finance Advisor to focus on the more complex elements and ensure the multiple interdependencies and work streams associated with the build and migration are delivered. This is anticipated to arise on occasions where they are working on the project, yet there is a requirement to ensure that departmental financial reporting needs are still met. The support to the project team will include the delivery of costings and budget reviews for the project.
The role offers enormous variety, including:
providing an effective and professional Project Accounting service within the department to support internal and external reporting and budgeting requirements for the Ray Dolby Centre project;
working on all the financial issues around the equipping of, and the move to, the RDC;
working with the central University, School Office, and within the department to identify suitable sources of funds for the projects;
management and reporting activities, maintaining the asset register, supervision of accounts payable and expenses, delivering training and carrying out general accounts administration. You will also be responsible for updating asset replacement values to ensure accurate insurance cover for the department.
You will work proactively with the departmental finance team and the project team to develop strong and effective working relationships to ensure that processes are effective and appropriately managed.
You will be highly numerate, analytical and proficient in standard software packages, particularly Excel. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, including the ability to effectively explain financial procedures to non-finance staff.
