We are seeking an experienced Building Services Technician to provide an efficient and reliable service; overseeing all plant, and related services for a modern research facility in South Cambridge.
The role holder will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance as part of a small team, which will include operation of plant and mechanical equipment, troubleshooting, and minor works services. The role holder will assist in preventative maintenance schedules and to repair, install and service the building's mechanical services in compliance with SFG20. There will also be aspects of maintaining large research equipment related to the role. As a result of this the role holder will be required to have a diverse understanding and skills in plumbing, heating and ventilation. A good general understanding of all aspects of building services will be an advantage.
The role holder will also be responsible for the management and coordination of a small Service Team providing ancillary (cagewash, preparation and portering) support to all staff and users within the facility. This will include organising and supervising the Service Team, ensuring compliance with working practices and procedures, and ensure that there is sufficient ancillary provision to meet the needs of the animals and the researchers at all times.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic building professional with a proven track record in installation and/or the management of mechanical and electrical services in a similar environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and continuous operation of the biofacilities and equipment within which are necessary to carry out the research and experimental procedures.
It is desirable for candidates to hold a professional qualification in a mechanical or electrical trade however consideration will be given to applicants with a trade background in building services who are able to demonstrate the appropriate technical competencies with plant and associated mechanical or electrical services. Supervisory experience is also essential.
In addition to the base salary stated above, the successful candidate for this post will receive an additional 2.5% supplement to their pay.
