As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will have the opportunity to shape AstraZeneca's digital journey and make a significant contribution to our growth.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will focus on developing deep learning models for AstraZeneca R&D to expedite clinical trials. You will design models to segment tumours from CT scans, predict patient responses to medicine, and forecast toxicity of different compounds. Your work will involve conducting research on machine learning models, applying them to clinical settings, and optimizing them for production. The models you develop will directly impact patients’ lives and must be designed with extreme care, rigorous development practices, robust testing, and performance auditing.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Develop interactive and fully automatic models that segment tumours from CT, PET and MRI scans for different tumour types.
  • Align different images together.
  • Develop multi-modal prediction models for tumour segmentation and patient response prediction.
  • Design and implement large model training pipelines that can train models using many GPUs.
  • Design large language models that use genetic data.
  • Design models to predict toxicity of compounds from tabular and multi-dimensional image.
  • Develop segmentation pipelines to extract individual cells from multi-dimensional image.
  • Develop transformer-based architectures to handle unordered sequence of data.
  • Hands-on experience in training, debugging and deploying deep learning models.
  • Good coding skill in machine learning products, not only research prototypes.
  • Ability to read a lot of research papers in deep learning, digest research ideas and improve them into products.
  • Theoretical understanding of deep computer vision models.
  • Good experience with Python, PyTorch and PyTorch Lightning.

Desirable skills/experience

  • PhD in machine learning, computer science, math, physics.
  • Established track record of publications in top tier conferences or journals.
  • Experience in mentoring junior members.
  • Experience working with medical data, such as CT scans, H&E slices, genetic data.
  • Experience in model inference speed optimization and model distillation.
  • Experience in working with Contrastive learning approaches such as DINO, SimCLR and BYOL.
