Abcodia named as finalist in the Startups Awards 2012

Biomarker validation and cancer screening company Abcodia is among the finalists in three different categories for the Startups Awards 2012 .

The shortlist for the Startups Awards 2012 has been announced and biomarker validation and cancer screening company Abcodia is among the finalists in three different categories.

Abcodia is the world leader in biomarker validation and discovery for cancer screening. As well as securing exclusive access to the largest blood serum biobank of its kind, Abcodia has established its position in supporting the development of new biomarkers that can transform the cancer screening market.

Based in London and Cambridge, Abcodia is one of 35 companies from across the country that has been named as a finalist, and winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Kensington Roof Gardens, London on 7 December 2012.

The company has been shortlisted for the Angel or VC-backed Business of the Year and the Innovative Business of the Year.

Abcodia’s CEO, Dr Julie Barnes, who has also been shortlisted for Start-up Business Woman of the Year, said she was thrilled that Abcodia’s pioneering work had achieved such high profile recognition, saying:

“Our passion is to improve the way cancer is diagnosed. By harnessing the best of technology and innovative clinical designs using our unique collection of longitudinal and pre-diagnosis serum, we are convinced that we can develop better blood-based tests for early diagnosis and screening.  I am delighted that this work is already being recognized through these prestigious awards and being a finalist is a testament to the dedication shown by our team.”

The Startups Awards, sponsored by NatWest and organised by Startups.co.uk, celebrate the success of businesses in the UK that have been trading for less than three years.

Duncan Bannatyne, of Dragons’ Den fame, will lead the judging panel alongside a number of other highly successful entrepreneurs and business experts including James Hurley, Enterprise Editor for the Daily Telegraph and Kevin Byrne, Managing Director of checkatrade.com.
