Keyla de Magalhaes, who runs The Audiology Expert, was interviewed on the One Show and made clear that “Frequent interrupted sleep can have a serious impact on one’s health. Your brain has an awakened reaction to loud noises which means that when this happens it increases the adrenalin and the cortisol hormones in your body which can cause a spike in your blood pressure and heart rate. Also, it can affect your mental and physical health meaning you are more likely to have anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and even heart disease.”
The Audiology Expert celebrated its first anniversary at The EpiCentre on the 1 December with patients coming from as far afield as Norwich, Beccles, Ipswich, Colchester and Chelmsford. Keyla says that The EpiCentre is ideal for her practice because there is ample parking, lifts to her first-floor clinic and a café making it ideal for patients visiting the centre.
“There are a number of reasons why people are choosing to come to us,” says Keyla, pointing out that she is a fully qualified hearing clinician whereas this might not be the case in many other high street shops. “A properly qualified audiology clinician with 3-4 years training has the ability to diagnose serious hearing problems rather than relying on hearing aid sales to keep them in business,” she adds.
Keyla says that all sorts of people are now coming to her whether it be for ear wax removal, hearing assessment, tinnitus consultation or for hearing aid fittings, and she is able to provide many of these services which the NHS no longer provides or has a long waiting list. At The Audiology Expert patients benefit from follow ups, check ups and appointments without having to wait several weeks for.
The Audiology Expert has been taking advantage of the support services provided by The EpiCentre including marketing advice and social media promotion.
The EpiCentre’s business support services provide a major incentive for companies who come looking to occupy space there. It provides support by offering services beyond the facilities and physical space supporting small and medium sized businesses to scale and grow. The business advice provided by its dedicated Innovation Director, Gary Jennings and the centre team makes all the difference, providing 1-2-1 coaching, business support, and signposting, with a focus on helping business to develop and grow.
Jennings says: “Tailoring the business support to the individual companies at a stage that suits them is key to ensuring a bespoke approach. If this be support in grant funding, developing strategies for sales development right through to getting access to business support tools, normally beyond the reach of most small and medium businesses.”
