The survey, organised by Legal 500 and in its 17th year, questioned more than 2,500 trainee solicitors across 12 categories to establish which firm prioritises what qualities in their training contracts. Birketts is recognised as a Lex 100 winner in two categories, Job Satisfaction and Work/Life Balance, for ranking in the top 20 firms polled for the survey.
As Lex 100 winners are decided by the honest thoughts of each firm’s trainees, Birketts’ success in these categories is a glowing testament to the quality of the firm’s training and Birketts’ culture. Trainees told Lex 100 anonymously that the social events organised by the firm were a highlight of their experience, as well as insights from external speakers every quarter.
Speaking after the announcement, HR Director Shaun Savory said: “Job satisfaction and an effective work/life balance are two fundamental elements needed for a long-term career in a law firm. I am delighted to see Birketts trainee solicitors’ report that these are the firm’s strongest qualities. We strive to ensure our trainees are not just experts in their chosen fields and delivering the client service we are known for, but see their careers as sustainable and satisfying.”
Senior Partner James Austin added: “The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to affect recruitment, training contracts and working life within the legal industry. However, Birketts is among the law firms that has proved itself to be adaptable and resilient, while remaining a competitive choice for trainee solicitors embarking on the first stage of their careers. We have seen another talented, inquisitive cohort of trainees qualify as solicitors this month, and we see the same qualities in our newest colleagues starting their training contracts this September.”
