Set up as part of the legacy of popular TV sports presenter Helen Rollason MBE after her fight against cancer, the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity was established in 1991 with the aim of providing counselling, complementary therapies and support for cancer patients at all stages of their illness. The charity also provides support for patients’ primary carers at Support Centres in Essex and North London.
After a successful Ride for Helen in Essex in May of this year, the charity has announced a second event at Trinity Park, Suffolk, taking place on Sunday 5 September 2021. Ride For Helen Suffolk offers participants a chance to cycle one of two routes (either 65 miles or 35 miles) through beautiful rural countryside, with the socially distanced ride starting and finishing at Trinity Park, home of the Suffolk Show.
With all ages and abilities welcome to participate either as individuals or as a team, this is a great opportunity for applicants to improve their wellbeing while fundraising for a fantastic cause. With medals for finishers and a mixture of virtual rides and children’s rides for supporters, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
Patron of the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, Ian Twinley, commented: “Following the success of Ride for Helen, which has raised over £130,000 over the past eight years, the charity is delighted to launch a brand new event for 2021, in the form of Ride for Helen, Suffolk. For many years now I have had the privilege of serving as a Trustee of the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity whose tremendous work supports people through one of the worst times of their lives. With many affected by this terrible disease, I am sure this will be a cause close to the hearts of many.”
Grace Kerr, Partner and Head of CSR at Birketts concluded: “Birketts is delighted to offer its support to this wonderful charity. With many taking up cycling during lockdown this is a great opportunity to get active and help raise desperately needed funds for this fantastic organisation after 12 months of reduced income and all Birketts’ colleagues are encouraged to sign up and participate in this fun and event.”
Sign up for the ride on the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity website - donations are set £20 for an adult and £10 for a child with opportunities for volunteer marshals also available.
