Birketts supports Good Divorce Week

Next Monday (30 November 2020), family law practitioners across the UK will support ‘Good Divorce Week’.

The annual campaign is run by Resolution, a national organisation which flies the flag for the benefits of dealing with separation in a non-confrontational way.

There are approximately 6,500 professional members of Resolution including all lawyers within the Birketts Family Team. All members adhere to a code of practice. The code stresses the importance of reducing conflict and putting children first.

Over the decades Resolution has campaigned tirelessly for changes in family law. Most recently, Resolution has achieved government approval to a change in family law to enable a couple to divorce without having to give examples of unreasonable behaviour; finally an end to the ‘blame game’.

Good Divorce Week aims to highlight the importance of reducing conflict upon separation, of taking early advice so that options are better understood and of putting the interests of children first. Working in this way means that separating parents are far more likely to achieve a better outcome for themselves and their children.

Juliet Harvey, national chair of Resolution and Legal Director at Birketts said: “In support of Good Divorce Week 2020 the Family Team at Birketts are pleased to offer 30 minute free consultations between 30 November and 4 December. We are available to offer practical advice for you and your family. We can explain the options available to formalise a separation, the relevant financial implications and help with any concerns about the day to day arrangements for children. We can also explain about non court options including mediation, collaborative law and arbitration.”
