Breakfast networking series kicks off in style

Around 40 Cambridge Network members attended the first in a series of new breakfast networking sessions on 27th September at St John’s Innovation Centre. Devised in response to a survey of Cambridge Network member companies with less than 21 staff, the sessions hope to focus on core business issues over the year.

Cambridge Network would like this series of events to be about and for members, so to kick off this initial discussion four members were selected to give pitches about their businesses. They were either known to Cambridge Network already, or offered their services via the survey. A diverse selection was chosen, not necessarily related, for this first session to test a format that might be followed for future meetings.

Firstly, Alex Smeets from Cambridge Funding Solutions who can outline government help available to SMEs, explained his services in helping people to access it. He was swiftly followed by Madeleine Morgan of GrowU. Madeleine, whose company offers life and career coaching for managers and business owners, talked about selling and other valuable communication skills. Chris Lamaison from Cambridge Resolution followed Madeleine with an enthusiastic delivery of his slides on how to gather market intelligence. And lastly was Caroline Lloyd-Evans who runs CLE Consulting & Training who can advise on what happens when life gets in the way of living….and earning a living.

The majority of the delegates stayed to network and lots of business cards were exchanged…which is what it’s all about. There was some good feedback about the amount of energy in the room and also suggestions for future speakers and offers of facilitation. These meetings are for members, so the suggestions will help steer future meetings.

So, if you are a Cambridge Network member with fewer than 21 staff you may want to attend our next breakfast networking session on 25th October on Marketing/PR and networking. There is a small charge to cover the cost of room hire and refreshments. Please email Andrea Mitchell if you would like to contribute a short talk.
