Following the successful Renewal ballot last November, the second term began on April 1st, covering a newly defined larger BID area that will connect the CB1 and Station areas to the city centre.
Outgoing Chairman, Ian Sandison – who has been combining the roles of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since 2016 – will continue as Cambridge BID’s CEO.
He said: “We are looking to add four new Directors to our talented and proactive Board and from these we would seek to appoint a new Chair. It would be helpful to include representation of the new BID area as the professional firms housed in CB1 have an increasing part to play in our city – but, equally, our largest number of levy payers comes from the retail sector. As far as is practicable, we wish to ensure a balanced Board committed to pursuing the conditions that will enable our city to thrive for generations to come.
“Cambridge BID has a unique responsibility to promote and enhance the city by working on behalf of the businesses that trade within it. Our successes impact residents and visitors too, through initiatives such as our festive lighting scheme that creates a magical atmosphere in the run up to Christmas, and our year-round deep-cleansing of pavements in the historic centre.”
The new Chair will be responsible primarily for leading and focusing the work of the Board on the mission, vision and strategic direction of Cambridge BID while guiding and directing the governance process. Remuneration will be available by negotiation.
The Board Directors have overall control of the business of Cambridge BID Ltd and are responsible for monitoring the organisation’s functions and determination of resources to meet its financial and other obligations. Acting on behalf of the 1,200 businesses located within the newly defined BID area, they are also responsible for developing the organisation’s policies and ensuring that the projects and pledges within Cambridge BID’s Business Plan are delivered.
