Cambridge to host the 2012 European Entrepreneurship Colloquium

The University of Cambridge is gearing up to host academic experts from across Europe and the world for the European Entrepreneurship Colloquium (EEC) 2012 programme from 8 to 14 July 2012.

The European Entrepreneurship Colloquium (EEC) is an intensive, one-week residential programme specifically designed for European professors and educators who are seeking to integrate more effective, appropriate and interactive approaches, as well as practical skills in teaching entrepreneurship. The EEC 2012 is managed by the European Forum for Entrepreneurship Research (EFER) and delivered in partnership with the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL) at Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK. Academic contributors include Prof Christoph Loch, Dean of Cambridge Judge Business School; Dr Shai Vyakarnam, Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning and Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge.

Sir Leszek Borysiewicz commented: “We are delighted to be hosting the prestigious European Entrepreneurship Colloquium this year at the University of Cambridge. It represents a great opportunity to showcase the innovation happening here in Cambridge and how we foster enterprise.  It will also be a chance to engage with colleagues from across Europe to further our contribution to Entrepreneurship Education.

EEC 2012 is focussing the European dimensions of entrepreneurship, interactive entrepreneurial learning approaches and case methods; and exposure to 'real world' entrepreneurship practices. There will be a special emphasis on ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship across the University’ in several sessions of the programme, highlighting the 'Spin-off Phenomenon', and 'Case Studies of New Europe Champions'.

“I am greatly looking forward to bringing our programme to Cambridge to inspire intellectual debate and research to advance entrepreneurial learning across Europe, as well as to encourage more ‘European Champions of Enterprise’,”  stated Mr Bert Twaalfhoven, serial entrepreneur and founder of the European Forum for Entrepreneurship Research (EFER)

About EFER

Founded in 1987 by Dr. Bert Twaalfhoven with support from many individuals and corporations, the European Forum for Entrepreneurship Research (EFER) fosters and promotes research and teaching in the field of entrepreneurship at institutions of higher education across Western and Eastern Europe. EFER works with an extensive network of schools and professors from across Europe and around the world. EFER’s programmes on entrepreneurship teaching have been developed to address the gaps and needs identified in Europe through the research work conducted by EFER over the years.

The EEC is built on the EFER supported “Case Writing & Teaching” workshops and “Teach- The-Teachers” programmes across Europe in the 1980s and 1990s, a joint “HBS-IESE-Cambridge” programme in 2001, the Harvard Business School European Entrepreneurship Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning (HBS EECPCL) which ran from 2005-2008 and the EEC Maastricht Programme in 2009, co-funded by the Dutch government.

EFER’s impact on entrepreneurship education at alumni’s universities has been strong following programme attendance. According to an EFER survey on the progress of alumni in March 2010, the respondents found EFER’s programmes helped them better teach courses and specifically to improve case teaching skills overall. Nearly 90% of respondents agreed that EFER has strengthened their network of entrepreneurship faculty in Europe, about 80% claimed the number of students taking entrepreneurship courses increased; and nearly 60% of EFER alumni started new programmes, courses or other initiatives at their universities. The plan is to have the programmes rotate around major European Entrepreneurship Centres and universities across Europe.
