Could you live on £2.50 a day for a week? That’s the challenge being set by one local campaign group in Cambridge.

Cambridge FoodCycle, an anti-poverty community group, are being joined by Daniel Zeichner MP tomorrow (Friday) at a ‘bring and share’ lunch held at Wesley Methodist Church to highlight the fight against food poverty (at ‘The Octagon’ at Wesley Methodist Church, Cambridge CB1 1LG at 12:30pm).

Daniel Zeichner MP said: “Even in a prosperous city like Cambridge there are still thousands of people suffering from serious food poverty. Many people simply don’t have enough money to afford basic groceries, with some people even skipping meals to make ends meet or put food in the mouths of their children.

“The Breadline Challenge is a campaign to raise awareness of what life is like to be hungry in Cambridge today. It’s tough enough doing this for one week, but the campaign aims to highlight there is no end date for many people suffering food poverty.

“I’m glad to be putting my full support behind the excellent outreach efforts of local groups, such as Cambridge FoodCycle, and I would encourage others to get involved”.
