Cambridge MP to lead Universities Parliamentary Group

Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner has been elected to chair Parliament’s leading cross-party group that specialises in universities.

The APPG for Universities brings together MPs and vice-chancellors to examine the big issues affecting the university sector.

With two large universities in Cambridge, Daniel Zeichner has always pressed the Government on a range of issues for universities including the potential impacts of Brexit on university research.

Responding to his election, Mr Zeichner said:  “The past decade has been a challenging one for the UK’s universities and those who work and study in them, with considerable changes to tuition fees, regulation, employment rights, and now the ongoing threat of Brexit to university research and support. The Universities All Party Parliamentary Group is an important forum where Government, opposition and key players in the sector can have candid and frank discussions – I look forward to ensuring that the key issues which will impact Cambridge are raised very directly with policy-makers.”
