The event, entitled ‘Building on strong foundations: the role of business in shaping our city’, promises to give businesses a unique opportunity to hear from a number of key Cambridge individuals on issues affecting the city from a business perspective. Cambridge BID will also hold its AGM as part of the evening.
This will be the first major business engagement for Zeichner since his election last month. Business issues are high on his agenda and he is particularly keen to address transport issues facing the city.
“If Cambridge businesses are to thrive we need to get people in and out of our city efficiently. We need to get the balance right between cyclists, buses, taxis, cars and pedestrians in the city centre and work together to sort out the congestion that blights our city,” says Zeichner.
He added: “Cambridge business owners tell me they need local people to have money in their pockets to spend. As MP I will be making the case for the Living Wage and to put an end to the low wage economy. I'll also be working to make Cambridge an even safer city, especially at night, and urging businesses working in the night time economy to sign the ‘Good Night out Pledge’.”
Additional speakers at the event will include:
Cllr Tim Bick - Chair of the Greater Cambridge Assembly
Shaun Grady – VP Business Development Operations at Astra Zeneca
Steve Campbell - Senior Pastor at Cambridge Community Church
Claire Ruskin - CEO of Cambridge Network
Topics covered on the evening will include the practical implications of the City Deal and increasing trade for investment in Cambridge.
Cambridge BID Manager Edward Quigley said: “We’re delighted that Daniel and other Cambridge influencers are able to join us for this evening, as we explore how businesses of all sizes help to shape our city. We’ll also provide attendees with a review of the work of Cambridge BID in the last year and our work over the next twelve months.”
All businesses and organisations in Cambridge, particularly those based in the city centre, are invited to attend the event, which will be held at the Cambridge City Hotel. Food and refreshments will be available from 6.30pm.
