While welcoming the decision that lets digital information continue to flow between the UK and European Union countries, Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner has said that British businesses now face a “never ending cliff edge, which we can be pushed off at a moment's notice. That would plunge British businesses, such as the highly successful video-games sector which is so important in Cambridge, into chaos.”
The EU can pull the plug at any time if they judge that UK rules do not give EU citizens protection over how their data is used.
Daniel Zeichner MP, who is Chair of the All Party Group on Data Analytics, said: “Data is the currency of the digital economy and frankly we have less freedom now outside the European Union. While I welcome this long-awaited decision on data adequacy, companies just won’t be able to rest easy like they did prior to Brexit.”
