Skills Bootcamps are intensive, Level 2-5 or equivalent flexible training courses which last up to 16 weeks. They equip adults with the technical skills they need to enable them to access in demand jobs, new opportunities and an increased income over time. There are also courses available for the self-employed, to enable them to develop their businesses.
The courses are fully funded for learners who are unemployed, self-employed or looking to change their career. There are also courses that are significantly co-funded for employers looking to upskill existing staff into a new role or develop their employee’s existing role responsibilities. The Combined Authority will cover 90% of the course costs for small and medium sized enterprises and 70% of course costs for larger companies.

The Combined Authority is always looking to win new funding for skills and we work with learners, businesses and industry leaders to identify courses that can plug skills gaps in our local markets, helping people into better jobs and supporting our economy.
“While the cost-of-living crisis continues, it is important that our local Skills Strategy continues to support residents' access higher paid opportunities and businesses access the talent they need to grow. Skills Bootcamps will deliver just that.”
In a previous round of funding during September 2021 and March 2022, Digital Skills Bootcamps were available, giving people access to a range of skills in the digital economy, including Cloud Engineering, Digital Marketing and Data Analysis courses.
While courses for digital skills will still be available, residents can also access courses for in-demand skills like bricklaying, repair and maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles and retrofitting energy efficiency measures like insulation in the home, among many more.
Who is eligible for Skills Bootcamps?
Adults aged 19+, who live within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, who have the right to work in the UK and a National Insurance Number, who are either:
- in work*;
- self-employed;
- Unemployed;
- returning to work after a break;
- prisoners due to be released within 6 months of completing the Bootcamp.
Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, announced by the then Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, in September 2020, with the aim helping everyone gain skills for life.
