Optimum Infinite, a hyper-Dk material for Ortho-K (orthokeratology) and scleral contact lenses
Since 2002, the FDA approved Optimum range of materials has been established as the most wettable and comfortable RGP materials on the market, with exceptionally high oxygen permeability setting our Optimum GP (gas permeable) materials apart from the competition. Recent years have seen remarkable growth in the use of both Ortho-K (orthokeratology) and scleral lens usage, and in response Contamac have developed Optimum Infinite, a hyper-Dk material.
Ortho-K is the use of GP contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea and reduce refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. They can be used as an alternative to refractive surgery, wearing spectacles and for those who prefer not to wear CLs during the day.
Scleral lenses are large contact lenses that rest on the sclera and create a tear-filled vault over the cornea. They are designed to treat a variety of eye conditions, many of which do not respond to other forms of treatment, i.e. keratoconus, complications post-LASIK or dry eye syndrome.
