Council hosts training on energy efficiency for small businesses

Businesses in Cambridge can learn how to become more energy-efficient, save themselves money and reduce their carbon footprint, at two free workshops this month.

Cambridge City Council is hosting the energy management workshops for Cambridge-based small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in partnership with the Carbon Trust Green Business Fund, on Wednesday 29 June at The Guildhall. These workshops are open to all types of businesses, including those run by charities and voluntary organisations.

The two hour workshops will show businesses how to identify opportunities to reduce energy costs in their workplace and how to make the most of funding available including the Carbon Trust Green Business Fund which provides a capital contribution of up to £10,000 towards the cost of energy efficiency projects that comply with the requirements of the fund.

Businesses attending the workshops will have the opportunity to learn more about:

  • Understanding and reducing energy bills through behavioural and low cost measures
  • Major areas of energy consumption in SMEs e.g.: lighting, equipment, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), travel and how to reduce them
  • Access to funding from the Carbon Trust Green Business Fund and free one-to-one site audits.

Cllr Richard Robertson, Executive Councillor for Finance and Resources, said: “The council is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of Cambridge. In this project we have teamed up with the Carbon Trust to help businesses in Cambridge reduce their energy consumption in a variety of ways.

“These workshops will give small and medium sized businesses the knowledge to start saving energy and money, and thereby help our city make our contribution to reducing global warming.”

The workshops will be held at The Guildhall, Market Square, Cambridge CB2 3QJ at 9.30-11.30am and 2-4pm.
