Discuss workplace parking levies and peak-time road closures at Cambridge BID business event

City centre businesses are urged to attend Cambridge BID’s summer business event and AGM on Tuesday 28th June, to discover more about how they will be impacted by the City Deal’s recently-announced plans to reduce congestion in the city.

Entitled ‘Adapt, Innovate and Thrive: embracing change in our evolving city,’ Cambridge BID’s event will run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at The Hilton Cambridge City Centre Hotel.  The evening aims to provide a forum at which the 1,100 businesses within the central BID Area can explore some of the latest opportunities and challenges facing today’s High Street.

Keynote speaker Lewis Herbert, Chair of the City Deal Board, will address the gathering to explain - and take questions on – the newly-agreed strategy for tackling congestion in Cambridge.  This event will be the first opportunity for local businesses to engage with this important issue since decisions on workplace parking levies and peak-time road closures were made public at the start of June.

“Rising congestion  in Cambridge now impacts on just about everyone who lives, works or travels here.  So how do we de-clog our city to keep people and business moving?” asks Lewis Herbert.

“This is the challenge for the City Deal - to tackle this issue decisively in a way that supports continued economic growth and the city's business community will want a strong voice in helping to shape the approach.”

A varied line-up of speakers will broaden the themes under discussion:

  • Diane Wehrle  |  Marketing and Insights Director, Springboard (Footfall experts)

Change and evolution in the high street

  • David Miller  |  Founding Partner, The Welcome People

Cambridge City Ambassadors; Working for you

  • Tom Williams  |  Senior Asset Manager, Legal & General (owners of The Grafton)

Investment in our city: What’s Going on at The Grafton?

  • Graham Daniels  |  Community Trust Chairman, Cambridge United Football Club

Going Up, Going Up, Going Up…? An analysis of Cambridge United FC

Ian Sandison, Chairman of Cambridge BID comments, “Our organisation exists to help ensure that Cambridge continues to flourish over the years ahead.  We believe it’s essential that, as a cohort of businesses, we anticipate and respond well to change.  That’s why our summer business event will look at various factors influencing the city centre as it evolves.  We’ll also take a few minutes to report back on the work that Cambridge BID has delivered over the last 12 months and our plans for the year ahead.”

All businesses and organisations based in Cambridge, particularly those in the city centre, are encouraged to attend the event.  Light refreshments will be available between 6.30pm and 7.00pm and there will be additional networking opportunities after the guest presentations.
