The announcement of Mr Khanduja as 26th President by the British Hip Society (BHS) will advance pioneering concepts to support training, education and research that ensures the very best care for patients with hip related conditions.
Following a global pandemic, the BHS recognises a need to focus on the ever-growing waiting lists and process of patient prioritisation for surgery alongside a greater commitment to providing information and education for the public.
On accepting the presidency, Mr Vikas Khanduja, who was also honoured last year with the Hunterian Professor Award by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, commented: “I would like to thank my mentors, friends and family who have helped and supported me over the years, I am delighted to be elected as the President of the BHS. This is a huge responsibility, but I have a great sense of hope and excitement for what lies ahead.
“During my year, we would like to focus on curating and storing our rich history, harnessing the power of technology to support our trainees via virtual and augmented reality training, supporting our patients on the waiting list through scientifically robust prioritisation and helping BOA and RCS in their strategy for addressing the ever-growing waiting lists, broadening our membership to include scientists and medical students and finally endeavour to develop our international reputation and collaborate with other hip societies globally.”
This inclusive approach will focus on all aspects of hip surgery including trauma, hip replacement and revision and arthroscopy. Mr Khanduja has been instrumental in establishing the Young Adult Hip Service in the East of England, based at Addenbrooke’s and Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital, his clinic provides a specialist service to assess, diagnose and manage hip pain in young adults.
