EWD’s brief was to select interior finishes for both the Buttery and Servery as well as furniture, in a way that represented proud college traditions, and tied into the college’s vision of creating a modern, inclusive space.
The buttery acts as a link between the new building and the existing C19th buildings. As well as providing new and remanufactured existing college furniture, EWD sourced V-shaped emerald green glazed tiles facing the Buttery bar, internally echoing the external shape of the building and green faience tiles on the exterior.
Other finishes specified by the studio include stone worktops, brass plinths, timber, wool upholstery and a paint scheme to compliment the project – including the striking glazed ceramic artwork wall by Shezad Dawood at the new entrance.
This bold and popular buttery provides a link between the radicalism of the new design and the existing stately architecture.
