Huntingdon Road junction works
Works to improve the junction of Histon Road with Victoria Road and Huntingdon Road are underway. So far, existing islands have been removed and new ducting for the traffic signals installed. Works have also started to reconstruct the footway on the eastern side of the Histon Road and Victoria Road junction.
Temporary traffic lights had to be used for some of the works to ensure they could be carried out safely. The temporary light set up did severely impact traffic in the area and we would like to apologise to all those affected. As a result of this, we have reorganised the works programme in this area. This will reduce the required number of days that the temporary light set up will be required.
The works at this junction are scheduled to be completed by the end of May and we are currently on schedule to meet this target.
Vegetation works
Vegetation clearance started in late January with the site team removing trees and hedges along the length of Histon Road. Where safe to do so, the team have worked without traffic management to reduce the impact to road users.
Our subcontractor, Anglia Tree Contractors, has been double checking utility drawings to make sure there are no utility services near any of the tree stumps before grinding them. In some places, where utility services are very close to the stump, more time and care will be required to safely remove them. To minimise the amount of temporary traffic lights and disruption to traffic flow on Histon Road, any tree stump that is very close to a utility service won’t be taken out until the inbound road closure is in place. In the meantime, the stumps are being left high so that they are clearly visible and do not become trip hazards.
Clearance works were slightly delayed in February, as the team was called away from Histon Road to work on emergency call outs, clearing fallen trees as a result of the recent storms.
New vegetation
Our site team has been working with residents regarding areas identified for hedge-replanting and have made plans for the replanting of hedges.
