The programme consists of a series of sessions aimed primarily at children aged eight and over and their families, to give people the chance to participate in sports together.
Participants will be able to play badminton, table tennis, short tennis and squash in a relaxed ‘come and play’ environment, with all abilities welcome and no previous experience needed. All sporting equipment will be provided
One of the sessions will see the council’s exciting new Glow Sports project launched. Glow Sports involves participants playing sports like badminton, table tennis, netball, basketball and volleyball with one big difference – it all happens in the dark.
UV lighting and special glow-in-the dark equipment – including t-shirts, glowsticks and fluorescent body paint – are provided to make for sessions that aim to appeal to different groups through a more sociable and fun approach to sport.
Following its half term launch, Glow Sports will then take place every week at North Cambridge Academy.
Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “These sports sessions are a great opportunity for children and their families to get out and get active together during the half term holiday.
“The council is committed to helping Cambridge residents become more active in fun and interesting ways. Exercise is great for us physically, but can also really improve people’s mental health and sense of wellbeing. I’d encourage anyone to come along to these affordable sessions and give it a go.”
