Grants will be given to projects which encourage new cyclists, support people to walk or cycle more often, promote safer cycling or reduce cycle theft.
Previous grants have been awarded to groups for cycle maintenance training, a tandem project for the visually impaired, cargo bikes to enable employment opportunities for the homeless and promoting cycle rides and events.
The deadline for funding is 1 December 2016. Once applications are received they are considered by the council’s Cycling and Pedestrian Steering Group, which will make a decision on whether to approve them.
Kevin Blencowe, Executive Councillor for Planning Policy and Transport said: “We hope that local groups will apply for funding to encourage those who live or work in the city to walk or cycle rather than drive whenever possible. This will help us achieve our vision of a city where getting around is primarily by bike, on foot and by public transport.”
