ICE welcomes HS2 Chairman appointment

On Monday (26 March) the Government announced the appointment of Douglas Oakervee as Chairman of the High Speed 2 ((HS2 Ltd)) rail project. Mr Oakervee lives in Newmarket and is a Past-President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE,) who warmly welcomed his appointment.

ICE Director General Nick Baveystock said:  "We are delighted to see such a prominent civil engineer and past ICE President, take the HS2 reins.  Doug’s experience in delivering infrastructure projects of this scale all over the world and his respect across Government and industry, make him a sound choice to steer this project through these important, early stages and beyond.”

Mr Oakervee comes with an impressive record having been responsible for construction of Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok International Airport and Executive Chairman of Crossrail 2005-9. He also prepared a report for London Mayor Boris Johnson on the proposal to create an airport in the Thames Estuary.
