Opposite the Guildhall is Cambridge’s Market Square where around 100 stall holders set up each day to provide both visitors and locals with a wide-ranging choice of goods and services.
Traditional market products such as fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers mix with Artisan bread, olives, health foods, fish, books, crafts, clothes, jewellery, antiques, records and CDs and retro homewares and is ever-changing as new stalls arrive. There are a number of stalls offering services too – it’s possible to have your clothes mended, get your bicycle fixed and get a haircut, all without leaving the Market Square.
There’s also a growing choice of ‘street food’ – much tastier than a sandwich from one of the nearby chain stores.
On Sundays (and bank holiday Mondays), the offering at the market changes when the stall holders for the Arts, Crafts and Local Produce Market lay out their wares.
Introduced about nine years ago, this market offers a quality selection of produce and products from the region's artists, craftspeople, photographers and farmers including unique T-shirts, gifts, jewellery, pottery, sculptures and organic foodstuff. It’s also possible to pick up customised items as some of the stall holders can create these to your own design – so an opportunity to shop both independently as well as creatively.
