As part of IQGeo’s ambitions to document and manage carbon emissions across its global operations, it embarked on a project with Carbon Footprint Ltd. to measure its carbon footprint. The detailed carbon assessment documented the tonnes of carbon produced by the company’s operational activities since it was established in 2019. IQGeo was awarded Carbon Neutral Certification for 2021 by offsetting the total tonnes of carbon generated during the calendar year through its support of high-quality, certified carbon offsetting projects.
In keeping with the carbon reduction initiatives of IQGeo’s telecommunication and utility industry customers, it selected a portfolio of renewable energy offset projects in Africa, South America, and Asia. These projects in developing countries are reducing the production of carbon emissions and offsetting carbon produced elsewhere in the world. The selected projects meet the Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard, two of the highest international standards for carbon credits, and comply with the stringent requirements of the Quality Assurance Standard (QAS) for Carbon Offsetting.
In addition to receiving Carbon Neutral Certification, IQGeo is also participating in a UK based tree planting project in which three trees will be planted for each of IQGeo’s employees. Planting trees is a great way to help sequester carbon emissions for the future by absorbing carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood. The UK Tree Planting project is managed and verified by Carbon Footprint Ltd. and takes place at schools and biodiversity sites around the country.
“IQGeo is now formally measuring its carbon emissions on an annual basis and have already shown reductions compared with their baseline year. They have a firm commitment to reach net zero and, on their journey to this, are offsetting the emissions to render the business carbon neutral,” said Carbon Fooptrint Ltd’s Client Director, Dr Wendy Buckley.
“IQGeo is proud to be a carbon neutral company. We want to do our part to mitigate the impact of our corporate carbon production,” explained Richard Petti, CEO at IQGeo. “We are doing this by measuring and offsetting the carbon we produce through our daily operations, rolling out policies that encourage carbon reduction, and educating our staff on carbon reduction objectives. Many of our customers have also established carbon reduction initiatives for the operations of their telecom and utility networks. We respect these ambitions and made the decision to launch our own carbon neutral program. It’s only through a global effort of individuals, communities, and businesses that we can begin to address the climate challenge facing our shared world.”
