He will open a session on the growth of the cleantech economy and outline the key opportunities and challenges for the future sustainable growth of the region – from smart cities to innovative energy management and Cambridge’s international excellence in clean technology. The results of a report into the regional cleantech cluster will be launched at the conference.

Mayor Palmer has a strong record on supporting the development of clean technology in the region. He recently supported a call for powers to get more electric vehicle charging points in the region, saying: “I believe that we, as metro mayors, who lead on transport strategy, are best placed to drive forwards measures to clean up our air and assist central government in its desire to remove all new petrol and diesel cars from sale by 2040.”
