Mills & Reeve advises on ‘law school of the future’

Working for longstanding client King’s College London, Mills & Reeve has played a key role in the establishment of a £40 million programme of investment for its 175-year-old law school.

The investment programme has been made possible by a £20 million gift from Dickson Poon CBE, a well-known Hong Kong-based philanthropist and the chairman and owner of Harvey Nichols. The Dickson Poon School of Law aims to set the standard for the next generation of legal research and education, and represent the shift from national jurisdictions to a more transnational approach.

Neil Burton, at Mills & Reeve worked closely with Matt Ferguson, Associate Head of Principal Gift Development at King’s College London. Neil said: “This was clearly an exciting project to be involved in and an excellent opportunity to apply our considerable expertise in advising on endowments and donations to universities. And with its transnational focus, The Dickson Poon School of Law neatly reflects Mills & Reeve’s own approach to the future of legal services.”

Matt added: “We have worked with Mills & Reeve for many years now so were confident of a safe pair of hands on such a high-profile project. We were certainly not disappointed with the final outcome, which will establish The Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s as a leader in its field.”
