Network's Careers Fair strikes a chord with jobseekers

The focus was firmly on career resilience and practical job searching at the latest virtual Cambridge Network Jobs & Careers Fair, which once again attracted interest from a large audience.

An expert panel comprising Claire Angus, Head of the Network's Recruitment Gateway; Katherine Wiid, recruitment and retention, career management and coach from Career Ambitions; Ulrich Seega, talent expert from SANDPartners and Sheila McDerment, business psychologist and coach from MC Works Ltd discussed the current jobs market. They talked about how to stand out as an applicant by putting yourself into the shoes of an employer, and advised candidates on how to manage a job search and follow up applications.

A company presentation by Will Coldwell, recruiting for Cambridge Network member Audiens, and a workshop on the value of volunteering with Anne Bailey, CEO of Form the Future, completed the day's sessions.

Feedback, once again, was positive:

What a fantastic range of speakers, covering some really interesting and relevant topics. Cambridge Network are going above and beyond during these unprecedented times, I am proud to be living in this supportive community. I sent the link to many talented colleagues who have found themselves without jobs and I believe this will have really inspired them.

Thank you very much for this morning's webinar which was very helpful.

Another informative and well-run event! Well done and thank you Cambridge Network.

A brilliant day. Thanks to everyone involved.

Claire Angus of Cambridge Network commented:  "This event was a slightly different format and, in light of the current jobs market, we had a different focus this time, offering more careers advice than we have done before.  We were pleased to have so many active participants over the course of the day and we’re sure it was useful to people who have found themselves faced with redundancy or an uncertain future.

"Although the pandemic has had a marked effect on recruitment, many of our member companies are still looking for talent and we still have a huge number of vacancies advertised on our jobs board.

"Depending on demand, we are thinking of running an event in November with a focus on graduate recruitment. Whether or not that happens, we plan to run a full schedule of general virtual jobs & careers fairs in 2021. Please get in touch if you are a company that would like to be involved."
