With a lifespan of over five years and a 35% increase in motor performance, the V4 was designed for frequent urban use and delivers a stable and secure ride. A reinforced fender, plus improved hydraulic suspension and large, higher-quality tyres, increase shock absorption and ease the impact from cobblestones and potholes.
In addition, the new IoT (Internet of Things) hardware allows for higher accuracy when it comes to riding and parking locations. The V4 also includes a dedicated slot for extra sensor devices, expanding the IoT’s future capabilities.
Jim Hubbard, Senior Policy Manager at Voi UK, said:
“Cantabrigians are known for their passion for bikes, but they are also pioneers when it comes to e-scooter adoption. Over 1.1 million rides have been taken in Cambridge since the beginning of the trials and we estimate to have replaced over 365,000 short car trips.
“We continue to see increasing demand for e-scooters in the city as more people seek cheaper and greener alternatives to cars to move around. By introducing an even safer, more robust, and technologically advanced vehicle, we aim to continue to support all residents and visitors with a high-quality transport service while helping to cut congestion and pollution in the city.”
Mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Dr Nik Johnson said:
“I’m delighted to see how these hugely popular runabouts are constantly improving. The safety of riders, and those around them, is of the utmost importance and adding left and right turn indicators is a welcome upgrade that can really help to protect the whole community.
“These scooters already offer a greener, cheaper and more convenient form of travel that suits Cambridge, giving the city an alternative to heavy car use. Making them even safer is a benefit for everyone.”
With the extension of the trials now up to May 2024, Voi will continue to work closely with the local council and other relevant stakeholders to ensure everyone can benefit from the introduction of this transport mode, including offering discounted rides to NHS staff, emergency service workers, military personnel and those on low income. More information on discounts can be found here.
While Voi continues its mission to create better cities for living, safety remains the e-scooter company’s top priority. Besides encouraging all riders to complete the RideLikeVoila e-scooter traffic school, the company organises regular online and in-person safety events - the next one in Cambridge takes place on the 30th of July - and has recently launched its newest safety campaign Let’s Get it Right to continue to educate riders to follow the rules of the road and ride safely.
Other safety measures in place include limited speeds (12.5mph), the implementation of no ride, slow ride and mandatory parking zones, and the compulsory ‘End-of-Ride Photo’ to ensure e-scooters are parked correctly at the end of each journey continue in place. Voi also encourages everyone to report instances of misuse via its Report a Voi.
