The Cambridge Reflux Service has been launched to help patients suffering with acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), in which stomach acids surge upwards into the oesophagus – it is a condition that affects many of us and up to 40% of our population. Chronic reflux is said to be the most common digestive health condition in the UK, with almost one in five people dealing with symptoms that impact significantly on their day-to-day activities and quality of life.

While acid reflux can affect patients in different ways, what is unique about Cambridge Reflux Service is that it offers the combined expertise of leading consultants, Dr Gareth Corbett, Mr Andrew Hindmarsh and Mr Vijay Sujendran, pictured, who deliver comprehensive assessments with a dedicated service to provide the best treatment options across all aspects of this condition.

“We are very proud to announce the launch of Cambridge Reflux Service for patients throughout the Eastern Region,” said Sophie Hudson, Sales and Services Manager for the premium hospital in central Cambridge. “At our specialist private clinic, our consultants have the experience and expertise to treat and advise on the best course of action to help relieve symptoms, it is an exceptional addition to the services we provide at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital for a condition that affects so many people.”

Leading the way once again with advanced healthcare, the CQC ‘Outstanding’ rated Cambridge hospital claims another first with the introduction of Stretta therapy. This successful procedure offers a minimally invasive alternative to surgery for patients suffering from chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

The condition can be treated with lifestyle modifications, exercise and medication, but where this is no longer effective, selected patients will now be offered Stretta therapy at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital. Stretta is a unique non-surgical day case procedure, delivering radiofrequency energy to strengthen the muscle tissues and prevent reflux occurring. Performed trans orally, it takes around 45-minutes and recovery is quick, with patients returning to normal activities within a few days.

“Stretta is by far the most widely studied minimally invasive treatment option for GERD – and has been proven safe and effective in more than 60 clinical studies and 30,000 procedures worldwide,” said Jack Robb-Eadie, Director at CJMedical. “Studies show that patients experience significant and lasting symptom relief from 4-10 years, without the higher complication rates of surgery, or the higher costs. We are excited to work with Cambridge Reflux Service at the Nuffield Hospital in Cambridge and to be the first centre offering Stretta in the East of England, which will in turn offer a significant number of reflux sufferers a safe, effective and non-surgical option to treat their condition.”
