Cambridge Oktoberfest 2016 will take place on Jesus Green, the historic open space managed by Cambridge City Council, and home for many years to the annual Cambridge Beer Festival.
The festival, from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 September will be based on the traditions of Munich’s famous Oktoberfest, which dates back more than 200 years.
Inside a large marquee, visitors will be able to enjoy traditional Bavarian food and beer, served by staff wearing trademark ‘lederhosen’, and accompanied by music played by a live band from southern Germany.
The council is working closely with the organisers to ensure that any impact to the open space is minimised, even in the event of poor weather. Vehicle and pedestrian matting will be used, and there will be some flexibility about the precise location of the marquee ahead of the set up.
Cllr Carina O’Reilly, Executive Councillor for City Centre and Public Places, said: “Cambridge Oktoberfest promises to be a fantastic new addition to the calendar of events taking place in the city’s open spaces, and is sure to be popular with residents and visitors alike.
“It’s fitting that this festival of food, drink and music should be taking place at Jesus Green, which has historically hosted many similar events.
“We will of course be doing our utmost to ensure that Jesus Green gets back to normal as soon as possible after the conclusion of the festivities.”
