Despite freezing temperatures, last week's event attracted more than 80 science-specific candidates to meet with headline sponsor LGC and a host of other recruiting companies. Claire Angus, who runs the Network's Recruitment Gateway, says: "We were delighted with the turnout of high quality candidates and all the businesses who attended were pleased at the quality of jobseekers. There was a great buzz in the room and lots of good conversations going on. I know that many plans for follow-ups were made on the day."
Michael van der Merwe, Commercial Director, Health Science and Innovation at LGC commented: "It was a pleasure hosting the recruitment event and thank you to Cambridge Network for your hospitality, fantastic venue and support. We were really pleased with the calibre of scientists who attended.”
The Recruitment Gateway, which every week advertises hundreds of vacancies on its popular jobs board, has planned a series of events for jobseekers over the course of the year, bringing together potential candidates with leading local employer organisations. The next event on May 4th (12-4pm) will take place for the first time in the new Post Doc Centre at Eddington on the Northwest Cambridge site, and Claire and her team are currently seeking more employers to participate and showcase their vacancies.
She says: "The facilities at Eddington are excellent and will enable us to accommodate all exhibiting companies in one room. We will also have a separate room for talks and hope to have a 'speed registration' drop-in area, where candidates can talk to and sign up with recruitment experts on the day.
"Eddington is located next to the Madingley Park and Ride, so people can reach us easily by bus. And for anyone driving, the £1 parking charge there has been dropped from 1st April, so all those attending can park for free."
