Mr Mahood officially opened the exhibition with Dame Mary Archer, Chairman of the Addenbrooke’s Abroad committee, on Wednesday 21 August.
Mr Mahood, who worked for the Financial Times, Evening Standard and the New Yorker among other publications, first heard about Addenbrooke’s Abroad when being treated in London by former Addenbrooke’s consultant ophthalmologist, also an Addenbrooke’s Abroad committee member, Dr Malcolm Kerr-Muir.
Mr Mahood was very pleased to have undertaken the work to help support the programme, which took two months at the beginning of this year. Explaining the theme of his work, Mr Mahood said: “It was nice for me and an interesting job to do. The medical side of the work was quite complicated to portray as it looks much the same at home and abroad. So I decided to concentrate on the travelling aspect of Addenbrooke’s Abroad and depict amusing situations overseas.”
Dame Mary Archer said: “We are very grateful to Mr Mahood for his kind gift of these wonderful cartoons. We're enormously honoured by his support for Addenbrooke’s Abroad. The works will be shown in rotation in our Addenbrooke's Abroad gallery and in due course they will also be available to buy.”
