Independents Day is part of a national campaign that aims to create a buzz around supporting independent businesses and encourages people to shop local. This is the fourth consecutive year that Ely Chamber of Commerce, part of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce has facilitated the showcase day within Ely alongside East Cambridgeshire District Council.
John Bridge OBE DL, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce, said: “Independents day offers a unique opportunity to shine the spotlight on independent businesses that are often hidden away or unknown to the local community. The annual event is undeniably important for showcasing the vibrancy of distinctive and unique independent businesses within the Ely area. By shopping local and sourcing services from independent businesses people can really help boost the local economy.”
Steve Copeland, Business Development Manager at Labour Tech, attended last year’s event and said “Labour Tech was delighted to attend Independents Day 2014. It was a great opportunity to showcase and promote our business to new candidates and clients from the local area as well as raise our profile. It was a very enjoyable day and we look forward to being part of the celebrations this year.”
David Toulson-Burke, Managing Director at The House Collection, the Hotel Group that manages Poets House Ely also said: “Last year’s exhibition was a new venture for us and was beneficial for providing an opportunity to engage with locals and showcase ourselves to fellow businesses as part of the overall community.”
Last year’s Independents day attracted over 30 local independent businesses. The event is a great opportunity for patrons to distribute samples, promote special offers and celebrate their independence.
