The company was founded in 2014 by a group of four entrepreneurs from the region’s technology consulting industry, with expertise in high volume product design and sensor technology. Based on their experience developing human wearable devices and other low- cost and simple-to-use consumer products, the group spotted an opportunity in the pet sector and started the company to develop it.
The company has since launched its first product, an activity monitor for dogs, which set tails wagging on BBC's Dragons’ Den in August. The retail product, which won Best New Dog Accessory at the UK’s largest pet trade show, is selling profitably today in over 20 countries across Europe. With 9 million dogs in the UK (over half of them overweight), and 150 million dogs worldwide, this represents a major market.
The company is now seeking investment on Crowdcube to build an internet-based cloud platform around the product that could disrupt and transform the entire pet care industry (food, insurance, veterinary, etc) — an industry that's worth around $100 billion a year, and which is crying out for the big data and insights that PitPat can provide. This Dog Care Intelligence Platform will join owners together as a community, and form the basis of a data, intelligence and communications proposition to partners across the pet care industry.
