Work starts on central London industrial scheme

Demolition work and site clearance is under way at the Elizabeth Industrial Estate in Lewisham, paving the way for one of the most exciting trade/industrial schemes in central London for years.

The new development, to be known as Surrey Canal Trade Park will be constructed by Howard Group and will include 8 trade counter/industrial units, five of which will benefit from direct roadside frontage to Surrey Canal Road. The new buildings will offer accommodation from 3,800 sq ft to 7,200 sq ft.

Behind the trade counter units, Howard will construct the Tea Shed, a large industrial/distribution unit with two storey offices and large secure yard. This unit of 34,500 sq ft offers a rare opportunity to acquire a large, high quality industrial unit and pre-let interest is believed to be extremely strong.

Development Manager at Howard Group, Colin Brown believes the scheme will provide ideal accommodation for a variety of businesses. “The timing is ideal for the trade park with the upturn in the London market and the large-scale regeneration of the area. It offers superb prominence onto one of the main thoroughfares in this part of London and easy access to central London by road or by way of a brand new East London line station located just a few yards from the scheme”.

“The surrounding area, just a couple of miles from the edge of the City of London is undergoing significant regeneration through projects such as Renewal’s “Surrey Canal Triangle” (www.surreycanal.com) and a number of other major infrastructure and redevelopment projects. Approximately 12,000 new homes are either approved or in the planning pipeline in the immediate vicinity, making the Surrey Canal quarter one of London’s most exciting and dynamic growth areas”.

Jones Lang LaSalle and Kalmars are marketing the development.
