Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s flagship event - Star Shine Night Walk Cambridge is now just three months away, taking place on the Summer Solstice, Saturday 21 June 2025.
A new addition this year is also taking place in Wisbech on Saturday 17 May. Both events are dedicated to celebrating the lives of loved ones and supporting the vital work of the Charity across Cambridgeshire.
In Cambridge, as the sun sets on the longest day of the year, you can choose from a 10-mile or a 5-mile route, starting and ending at Shelford Rugby Club.
Star Shine Night Walk is all about coming together and walking to raise funds to support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care. Gather your friends, family, colleagues and community members for a Saturday night with a difference. The more, the better!
A number of teams have already signed up to take part in the 2025 walk. Claire from team ‘Init Together’, a group of 18 friends from Royston, shared why they have decided to take part in the Cambridge event this year:
“In May 2020, my dear friend Sherrall was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), and over the course of almost two and a half years, the Charity provided unwavering support, not just to Sherrall, but to her husband Lynyrd, and to me. The care we received during that time was invaluable and it allowed us to cherish every moment with Sherrall. She was such a shining star, always bringing people together with parties, fun times and smiles.
This year’s Star Shine Night Walk falls on, not only one of her favourite days of the year - the Summer Solstice, but also the anniversary of her death. It felt only fitting to bring some of her friends together to support the Charity that gave her such wonderful care.
I miss Sherrall every single day, but I had the honour of accompanying her on her final journey, which meant the world to both of us. This experience, along with the loss of my father just two months earlier, has been one of the most challenging periods of my life, but through it all, I’ve learnt how important it is to have access to such valuable services.
My team and I are hoping to raise a significant amount to ensure that families like Sherrall’s continue to receive the support they need.”
The events promise to be both uplifting and reflective, offering moments to share stories and support one another. Unforgettable nights filled with love, remembrance, and community spirit.
Registration is now open, and participants are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot and take advantage of the early bird price.
