Group Leader in Stem Cell Science [Fixed Term]

The University of Cambridge is one of the world's oldest universities and leading academic centres. If you're looking for a new challenge and would like excellent benefits, extensive learning opportunities and a stimulating working environment in return for your skills and contribution, there could be a job here for you.

Senior Research Associate (£45,585-£57,696) or Principal Research Associate (£66,857-£77,476) depending on skills and experience.

The Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is a world-leading centre for stem cell research with a mission to transform human health through a deep understanding of stem and progenitor cell biology (http://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk). The Institute is located in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre, a state-of-the-art building adjacent to Addenbrooke's and Royal Papworth Hospitals and multiple research institutes (http://cambridge-biomedical.com). This has nucleated a fully integrated, vibrant and cohesive stem cell community ideally placed to capitalise on the surrounding unique intellectual and clinical environment. The Institute currently has 28 research groups with approximately 300 biological, computational, clinical and physical scientists operating across a wide range of tissues and at multiple scales. CSCI benefits from long-term investment by Wellcome, most recently via a new Discovery Research Platform for Tissue Scale Biology (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/news/launch-discovery-research-platform-tissue-scale-biology) . The Institute also serves as a hub for the wider stem cell community across Cambridge and has more than 30 affiliated researchers across 13 University departments and the neighbouring Babraham and Sanger Institutes.

The Institute has openings for a new Group Leader who will complement and synergise with our existing programmes. We welcome applications from across the entire range of basic and translational stem/progenitor cell biology, including experimental and/or computational research relevant to:

  • Cardiovascular, glial/neural or epithelial tissues.
  • Cell and Gene therapy.
  • Organ regeneration and repair.

This would be ideal for a candidate with a minimum of 3 years post-doctoral experience, distinctive research achievements and a cutting-edge research plan for the next 5 years. Interdisciplinary and collaborative research is strongly encouraged across the University and its associated institutes. The Institute offers a collegiate environment with excellent core facilities, extensive opportunities to pursue basic and disease focussed studies. Successful candidates will be supported to obtain external personal fellowship and grant support, prior to contracts commencing. Interim start-up packages may be available depending on individual circumstances.

Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae (max 3 pages, to include date of PhD and details of any career gaps if applicable) with contact details of 3 referees, and a 3-page outline of your research proposal, by 21st October 2024.

Informal enquiries about the post are welcome via email to Anthea Stanley (ajs333@cam.ac.uk).

Benefits include generous maternity / paternity leave, flexible working, funds for returning carers and other family-friendly schemes.

Fixed Term: The offer of any position will be conditional on the candidate securing a fellowship which includes their salary. Candidates may already have secured a fellowship in which case the end date of the post would be the same as the end date of fellowship. If candidates have not already secured a fellowship they will only be able to take up appointment when they have done so - the tenure of the appointment will be the length of the fellowship term.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a health assessment.
