Cambridge Design Partnership flying high

Cambridge Design Partnership encourages staff to learn to fly, as high levels of staff satisfaction help company to soar in growth.

Innovative design and technology consultancy Cambridge Design Partnership announces that this week it held the third of its company Flying Evenings. A number of aircrafts were available to fly from a nearby airfield at Bedford Microlight Centre. Cambridge Design Partnership believes that encouraging adventurous activitiesoutside work, alongside other benefits, contributes to its high levels of staff satisfaction.

As part of a fun evening out, Cambridge Design Partnership’s staff had the choice to fly in three Microlight aircrafts, (a Flight Design CTSW, a Thruster T600 and a Quantum 582), and a Robinson R22 helicopter.

This exciting initiative underlines Cambridge Design Partnership’s belief that truly innovative companies cannot simply serve as ‘a place to work’, but should foster an engaging and creative environment in which ideas and innovation grow.

Cambridge Design Partnership has undergone vast growth in the last year. The company has recently opened a new Medtech-focused office in Silicon Valley, California, and has significantly expanded its staff. The company is planning new offices with specialised laboratory and workshop facilities as well as new state-of-the-art conference and office space. To support its continuing expansion plans Cambridge Design Partnership is looking for new engineering recruits in the Cambridgeshire area.

“A large number of our staff are qualified pilots and we encourage our staff to learn!” explained Mike Cane, Partner and Founder of Cambridge Design Partnership. “Demand for engineering staff in the Cambridge area is high. People need to feel a company is giving them that little bit extra. In order to attract and keep the best staff we try to provide a great working environment, both in terms of the technically innovative, cutting-edge projects that staff work on, and the culture they experience here. When you put enough clever people together, ideas and inspiration pop out in interesting and unexpected directions, and so we like all of our staff to work hard and play hard.”

In addition to a subsidised canteen, other initiatives at CDP include Frisbee tournaments, running groups, a monthly photography competition, a book club and even chilli plant growing competitions!

As you would expect, planes flown by Cambridge Design Partnership staff contain some novel technology. CDP engineers pioneered the certification of glass cockpits and emergency ballistic parachutes in the CTSW, a testament to the breadth of engineering skills within the company and the degree to which Cambridge Design Partnership encourages its engineers to follow creative projects and personal enthusiasms.
