Cambridge MP calls for tougher action on ram-raiding

Following a recent spate of ram raids in Cambridgeshire, Daniel Zeichner, Member of Parliament for Cambridge, has called on the Minister for Crime and Policing to make resources available to local police to help tackle this crime.

Mr Zeichner also raised other challenges faced by retail workers in Cambridge, including organised shoplifting and threats of violence. The member for Cambridge praised the work of PC EJ Matthews who has worked tirelessly with Co-Op stores in Cambridge to crack down on abuse faced by shop workers.

Mr Zeichner has previously worked with Co-Op shops and the Cambridge police after he heard horror stories about the level of assaults on Cambridge retail staff.

In December of last year, Mr Zeichner welcomed the Government's decision to finally listen to calls of Labour MPs and over 100,000 shoppers and make assaulting shop workers an offence.

Daniel Zeichner MP said, “Shopworkers In Cambridge have had a tough time in recent years. They have faced organised shoplifting and threats of violence, and now they are facing organised ram raids. More needs to be done to tackle this crime, and the Government must take immediate action to provide additional resources to Cambridgeshire police."
