New visa route open for graduates

A new High Potential Individual (HPI) visa route has opened enabling recent graduates from eligible overseas universities to work in the UK without sponsorship.

Julie Moktadir, Partner at Stone King LLP

Julie Moktadir, head of the Immigration team at Cambridge law firm Stone King, explains: “In order to be eligible for this visa, an applicant must have been awarded a degree level qualification by one of the listed universities. Applicants must also meet the English language and financial requirements but do not need to have a job offer in order to apply, so this could be a great opportunity for graduates wishing to travel to and find work in the UK. It is important to note though that the visa, which usually lasts for two years, is not a route to settlement.”

To be eligible, an applicant’s qualification must have been awarded in the last five years from one of the listed universities and be the same level as a UK bachelor’s degree, postgraduate degree or PhD or doctorate.
